Practices

Practices of animism involve magic and spells. They practice magic, trances, witchcraft, and sorcery through shamans, or priests. The ancient Aztec and Maya Indians, Native American tribes, and Australian Aborigines all practice a form of animism called Shamanism. This branch of animism involves shamans, who have the power to control over fire, water, or wind or practice magical healing. Animism is also the basis of Hinduism. Other systems of religion that follow animistic beliefs or practices include Spiritism in Brazil, Santeria in Cuba, voodoo in Haiti, and Shintoism in Japan. Animistic cultures also perform many rituals.
